Meet The Face Behind Jonas Driving School

I’m Jonas Hila, the proud owner of Jonas Driving School. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I always loved accompanying my father on road trips and was fascinated by his skill and confidence behind the wheel from a young age. I was also still somewhat interested in self-employment as I figured it meant freedom, stability and self-sufficiency.  

In early 2000, seeing a need for driving schools in the Calgary area and wanting to put my passion for driving to use, I started Jonas Driving School, and have never looked back. 

My school started with just a couple of instructors and a handful of courses. Over twenty years, we have grown to have instructors that speak fluent English, Chinese, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Tagalog, Amharic, and Tigrigna and offer multiple courses. Our business has also grown in terms of our knowledge, expertise, and fleet of training vehicles and driving simulators. 

My motto is “safety first,” and I ensure all my instructors and students follow protocols dictated by the authorities. Ensuring my driving school produces drivers that react professionally and will be safe on our roads.  

I find the most rewarding part of owning and running a driving school is seeing students who have given it they’re all in class, worked hard, and followed instructions, pass their driving test with flying colors on the very first take.

As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from the others is my straightforward approach to teaching people how to drive. I don’t beat around the bush. I tell you how you can be a better driver, and I hope my frankness adds value to your driving lessons.

I attribute my success to my team and their consistent dedication to our students. No matter race, color, or creed, we treat everyone with respect and strive always to improve our client-instructor relationships. 

The most satisfying moments in my career have been seeing my students get their license and start businesses of their own. The knowledge my driving school has helped my community prosper has given me immense satisfaction over the years and continues to inspire me.

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family. I think family is one of the foremost responsibilities of a man, and work hard to give them the best.

I also enjoy swimming as it keeps me fit and de-stresses me after a long day. 

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
